After blogging yesterday about all the hours I put in at our winery I did almost a 180 today as I went into the winery for only about a half hour and then took the day off! I had a dental appointment first thing this morning and while driving back I had this hare brained idea to drive north to Cabela's (in southern Minnesota) to buy some fishing supplies for our annual trek into northwest Wisconsin in early June. I got home and mentioned the idea to my wife (she is off on spring break from her teaching job) and she promptly said it was too far to drive. I skulked off and apparently did a good job of looking sorry for myself as she caved. I made a quick trip down to the winery to package some beer brewing supplies and some wine making equipment that I had sold from our website, took these to the post office and then went home so we could get on the way.
It is a rare day, a very rare day when I get to take even part of a day off from the daily toils of making wine, selling homebrewing supplies and winemaking equipment and helping customers decide which of our WinExpert or Cellar Craft wine kits is best for them. I try not to help too much when people are deciding on which of our Cellar Craft or WinExpert kits is right for them because tastes in wine are so different. Mostly I describe what they can expect from each kit.
Whether you are purchasing home brew supplies or wine making items in our store or on the web, we do not try to sell you anything. We believe that information is what we sell and if we do a good job of describing the home winemaking process or informing you about some aspect about our home brewing supplies which you may not have been aware of will help you make your own informed decision about purchasing. I have never been a fan of used car sales tactics and we don't use that approach to sales when selling our wine making supplies or homebrew ingredients.
We can help you make home wine making or home brewing your hobby of choice. In these times of economic instability there are a couple of pleasures you can still enjoy by reducing the cost! Winemaking using one of our WinExpert wine kits or one of our Cellar Craft kits or brewing your own beer using home brewing supplies, beer brewing equipment and brewing ingredients from BlueStem Winery will help you produce quality wines and beers for much less than the cost of purchasing them at the store . . . and the quality is every bit as good (or better!).

Hello! My husband and I moved to WA from Sonoma Valley, CA less than a year ago and we really enjoy your blog. Lots of people down in Sonoma would scoff at the notion of wines from Iowa but we think that's a bad attitude. Good for you! Nice job on your blog too. If we ever get some extra time we'd love to start home wine making, and your store is the first place we will turn. Thanks! Bonnie
Yea for a day off! Everyone needs one sometime.
This shows my ignorance about wines. I truly didn't know Iowa produced wine. That is really neat and exciting to me.
